In a perfect world, we could eliminate the health and human service needs in Kankakee County.   But ours isn't a perfect world and the need for the United Way and our partner agencies will continue far into the future.

Recent history and the current financial crisis in particular show us that our work is full of surprises and challenges.  It is most-appropriate that at this moment, at this annual dinner, the creation of the United Way of Kankakee County Endowment Fund.

The mission of the United Way of Kankakee County Endowment Fund “is to meet the continuing and emerging health and human needs across Kankakee County well into the future, regardless of what the future holds.”

The Endowment Fund will give future United Way of Kankakee County boards the flexibility to meet our mission of mobilizing resources and finding solutions to the community’s health and human services needs.  In the future, dollars from the Endowment Fund may go towards moving our funding of new systems to improve our fundraising abilities,  meeting unexpected challenges and needs and most of all, be a safety-net in times of crisis, much as we see today.
