United Way of Kankakee County Brings FamilyWize to the Community in a Big Way

United Way of Kankakee County has partnered with FamilyWize to assist the community with the cost of prescription drugs.  FamilyWize is responsible for providing the country with Free Prescription Drug Discount Cards to those who do not have any insurance or those with insurance that does not cover certain prescriptions.  One out of five people do not have prescription drug coverage.  With the cards patients can receive discounts on eight out of ten prescriptions on average.  The Executive Director of the United Way of Kankakee County, Greg Carrell anticipates even more participation in the program, “We’re encouraging everyone in need of prescription drug care assistance to seek out FamilyWize and enjoy savings at 30% or more on regular price prescriptions.”  Through the partnership of the United Way of Kankakee County and FamilyWize, the community has saved over $47,000 in the past two years for the residents.  On average each time the card is used residents of Kankakee County are saving $18.08 on the cost of their prescriptions.

All that you need to do is take the discount card to a pharmacy when filling prescriptions and present the card to the pharmacist.  FamilyWize is not insurance but a discount card that can be used repeatedly without any sort of registration process or fees.  On behalf of all at United Way of Kankakee County, a special thanks goes out to all the businesses involved in helping make this community a better place.
