UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN KICK-OFF

The

United Way
of Kankakee County would like to thank the community for their terrific support of the 2010 Campaign Kick-Off. Special thanks goes to all who attended the Montgomery Gentry concert, the many volunteers, sponsors, partner agencies, concert producer, Hidden Cove Sportsplex, Jason and the Haymakers, Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry of Montgomery Gentry and their band. United Way is pleased to have brought this level of entertainment to the area.

United Way also thanks the community for all of its feedback since the concert. There are some great suggestions for improvements. Over the next few weeks, we will meet with each of the concert’s partners to review the concerns, feedback and suggestions.

We greatly appreciate all of our donors who continually show they are dedicated and generous people. United Way’s annual donation campaign will remain the cornerstone of how we fund 46 programs within our 24 partner agencies. However, those programs and agencies are being strained and we recognize the need to develop creative and innovative ways to increase awareness and reach the 2010 campaign goal of $1,100,000. As long as there are needs in Kankakee County ,

United Way
is committed to meeting the challenge.

- LIVE UNITED Day...October 18, 2008

The United Way of Kankakee County is hosting LIVE UNITED Day on October 18, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a day of caring that allows the community to get involved with the United Way of Kankakee County partner agencies.

Donor companies will be providing staff to agencies in order for them to complete important projects like building a handicap accessible deck for the tenants of Good Shepherd Manor of Momence. Some other projects include trimming bushes, fixing swing sets, picking up garbage, removing fallen tree limbs, and loading/unloading of donations. Volunteers can also get involved at Asbury United Methodist Church from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. to aid in stocking clothing, assisting individuals with shopping, and unloading donations to benefit Center of Hope, a United Way agency. Volunteers are encouraged to come and be a part of a project to help the community.

United Way of Kankakee County partner agencies will have tables set up to accept donations from the community in the Clock Tower building in Kankakee . For those looking for ways to help but are unable to volunteer, the agencies can help you clean up your homes by accepting the following items:

·        Harbor House, KC-CASA, and Options: cell phones

·        Harbor House, and Salvation Army: coats

·        Harbor House: paper towels, toilet paper, napkins, cleaning supplies, laundry supplies, baby wipes, diapers, new children’s books, and a large truck to transport supplies to the resale store in Watseka

·        American Red Cross will be having a blood drive inside the Clock Tower building on that day.

October 18, 2008 is the day that we ask the community of Kankakee County to have fun while getting to know the United Way and its partner agencies. The community can use volunteers to help, and if you have items that you know can aid those in need—bring them to us. The idea is not to have you spend your money—but to help you clean up around your home. For more information call the United Way at (815) 932.7476 or visit our website at www.MyUnitedWay.org.
