UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN KICK-OFF

The

United Way
of Kankakee County would like to thank the community for their terrific support of the 2010 Campaign Kick-Off. Special thanks goes to all who attended the Montgomery Gentry concert, the many volunteers, sponsors, partner agencies, concert producer, Hidden Cove Sportsplex, Jason and the Haymakers, Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry of Montgomery Gentry and their band. United Way is pleased to have brought this level of entertainment to the area.

United Way also thanks the community for all of its feedback since the concert. There are some great suggestions for improvements. Over the next few weeks, we will meet with each of the concert’s partners to review the concerns, feedback and suggestions.

We greatly appreciate all of our donors who continually show they are dedicated and generous people. United Way’s annual donation campaign will remain the cornerstone of how we fund 46 programs within our 24 partner agencies. However, those programs and agencies are being strained and we recognize the need to develop creative and innovative ways to increase awareness and reach the 2010 campaign goal of $1,100,000. As long as there are needs in Kankakee County ,

United Way
is committed to meeting the challenge.

United Way: Live United Day Wrap-Up

Kankakee, IL – On October 18, 2008, dedicated volunteers from Cognis pulled the efforts of 6 team members together to complete a handicap accessible deck at Good Shepherd Manor in Momence, Illinois. This team, comprised of Steve Graham, Tom Sippel, John LeSage, Greg Osenga, Bruce Adams, and Maureen Haller, put aside their plans for a beautiful October Saturday and completed this project by 1:30 in the afternoon.

Despite the sore backs and minor splinters left over from the work, the team successfully completed the deck that they can be proud to say will provide easier accessibility to handicapped individuals at Good Shepherd Manor.

Along with this meaningful project, Live United Day also enlisted volunteers from the community to work on other various projects throughout Kankakee County . Others chose to participate in Live United Day by giving much-needed donations of coats and cellular phones or participating in the American Red Cross blood drive. With the compassionate hearts of the community and the small Cognis team of caring individuals, Kankakee County is learning what it means to LIVE UNITED.
