FamilyWize Prescription Drug Discount Cards
The United Way of Kankakee County would like to remind the community of our free FamilyWize prescription drug discount cards. These cards are available to help the people in our community lower the cost of their medicine. FamilyWize cards are primarily for people with no health insurance or prescription coverage. In addition, they can be used when people need medication not covered by their health insurance, Medicaid, Medicare or VA benefits. FamilyWize cards even include prescription pet medications when they are purchased at a pharmacy.
FamilyWize cards can reduce prescription drug costs by an average of 35 percent. The cards are being distributed free of charge by United Way of Kankakee County, their partner agencies, 550 participating United Way agencies and America’s Promise Alliance Partners in all 50 states. The goal of this FamilyWize partnership is to reduce the cost of medicine by $100 million in five years. This goal is for children, families and individuals struggling to purchase their prescriptions.
Most pharmacies here and throughout the United States accept the FamilyWize prescription discount card. The participating pharmacies that have voluntarily agreed to accept the FamilyWize card are providing these savings for those in need. The discount cards have no usage limits, age limits, income requirements or registration forms.
People with Internet access can go to www.FamilyWize.org to print a card, look up drug prices and get a list of the participating pharmacies. FamilyWize cards are obtainable from any of our participating agencies, participating pharmacies or by calling United Way of Kankakee County at (815) 932-7476.
"Too many American families have insufficient or no prescription drug coverage. Healthcare costs are one of the top concerns for people in our community and the FamilyWize prescription drug discount cards will help families who otherwise could not afford to buy the medicine they need,” said Greg Carrell, Executive Director of the United Way of Kankakee County. “We hope that everyone in the community will go to one of these locations to pick up one of the free FamilyWize cards as soon as possible so that they will have one available to help them if they have no insurance or when they need to buy medicine not covered by insurance.”

Two Pennsylvania companies, Independent Graphics of Pittston, PA and Brown Printing of Bethlehem, PA., donated printing for five million prescription cards. FedEx Express generously donates the shipping.

ABOUT THE FAMILY WIZE PARTNERSHIP
The FamilyWize community service partnership was established in 2005 and coordinated by Membership Services Corporation of Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania to reduce medication costs for people who live and work in the Lehigh Valley. We believe that healthier people make healthier communities and a stronger nation. More than ten thousand community and faith-based organizations, county agencies, doctors, pharmacies, companies, and individuals across the country join in this partnership to distribute free FamilyWize prescription discount cards. This reduces the cost of medicine for people in one of every four counties in the United States. More than 535 participating United Way agencies, America’s Promise Alliance Partners, and individual counties in all 50 states and Puerto Rico have volunteered to coordinate these distribution efforts. The savings on the cost of the medicine is provided by the more than 53,000 participating local pharmacies that have voluntarily agreed to accept prices for medications that are close to the prices they make available to large insurance companies and employers. All other program costs, including materials, printing, shipping, programming, distribution, reporting, administration, network pharmacy services, and customer service are provided by in-kind donations from the program sponsors and by part of the processing fee included in the cost of the medicine.
