Board Spotlight: Nicole Gavin

How long and in what ways have you been involved with United Way?

I started my involvement with United Way through Women United and became a Board Member in October of 2022.

What aspect of United Way's work excites and inspires you?

I love the Women United program and especially the Women United Annual Breakfast.

What inspired you to become involved with United Way?

I was extremely moved to become more involved after attending the Local Leadership Breakfast.  It was heartbreaking to hear about the number of programs that lacked the funding to support the community members who are going without adequate healthcare, stable income or education resources. I value giving back to our local community and am grateful for the opportunity.

Nicole's Story:

I moved to Manteno with my two children in 2010 from the west suburbs, and though it was a big adjustment at the time, I love our small-town community with an urban flair. I am the Executive Director of the Kankakee County Convention and Visitors Bureau and feel honored that we get to share all of the cool destinations and unique finds in our county, and love the people I get to work with each day. I enjoy being outdoors (bonus if there is a beach!), spending time with my teenage kids when they actually want to hang out with me - ha!, cooking and trying new things. This year I'm hoping to take up hiking and maybe even camp; (gulp). And traveling is always fun!
