Board Spotlight: Sarah Viall

In what ways have you been involved with United Way?

I was a Founding Member of the Women United affinity group and I've been a Board Member since late 2021/early 2022.

What inspired you to become involved with United Way?

I have participated in workplace campaigns via a few of my past employers. The financial support of United Way is very important, but I felt that I had other resources to give as well.

What aspect of United Way's work do you connect with most?

I have worked for social service agencies in the past and know how much they rely on adequate funding to provide the vital services that they do to individuals, children, and families in our communities. United Way also does a great job of connecting people via fun and meaningful events and volunteer opportunities.

Why do you think it's important to support United Way's mission?

We all experience different seasons in our lives and can use some extra support. When I am in a position to provide that support, I want to pay it forward.

Sarah's Story:

I grew up in Manteno but moved away after graduating high school. I spent quite a few years living in central IL and central MO before moving back to Kankakee County in 2018. I'm glad to be back!  I am a now Financial Advisor with Prudential and opened my office in downtown Kankakee in May, which is across Court Street from the United Way office. I enjoy talking with people about their goals & dreams and finding a way to make them happen financially. I love to roller skate (former roller derby skater), as well as bike and kayak. I also enjoy reading a variety of books, especially when it can be done in my hammock under a tree and/or with one of my cats (Frank & Kyudo) napping nearby.
