UNIQUE WAYS TO GIVE
We love a good classic - But...

The classic methods for charitable giving through United Way have historically been payroll deduction, credit card, or check gifts. But did you know that there are many other options to make a long standing gift? Here are just a few!

For more info about any of the following giving options, please reach out to our Executive Director, Mariah Vail, for more information: info@myunitedway.org
Special thanks to our friends at Rooted Wealth Advisors for partnering with us to create this educational video series. Their expertise helped make these topics accessible and easy to understand. If you’re interested in learning more about please contact us at info@myunitedway.org. We’d be happy to connect you with someone who can guide you through the process.

1.) Including United Way in your Will

Where there's a will, there's a way. Having a will is
essential for everyone, regardless of the size of your
estate, as it serves as a valuable tool to support your
chosen beneficiaries and causes close to your heart.
By having a will, you can ensure that your desires
are clearly stated and known. To make the process
easier, United Way has collaborated with FreeWill, allowing you to create a free will in as little as 20 minutes. For more information or to begin the process, visit their website at: www.freewill.com

2) Giving through a Trust

Giving through a trust is a powerful way to support
meaningful causes while ensuring your assets
are managed according to your long-term wishes.
In this video, we walk through how charitable
giving can be built into a trust and the benefits
it can provide for you and your loved ones.

3) Make In-Kinds Gifts

In-kind giving offers a hands-on way to
support United Way. Whether you donate goods,
supplies, or professional services, your contribution
goes directly toward meeting community needs
and enhancing our impact.

4.) Donor Advised Funds (DAF)

A donor advised fund (DAF) is a type of giving
program administered by a third party that
allows you to easily make a charitable
contribution to the United Way while also
receiving favorable tax benefits. It is created
for the purpose of managing charitable
donations on behalf of an organization, family, or individual. DAFs are an excellent
way to both simplify your charitable giving and facilitate your strategic philanthropic goals. To learn more about donor advised funds, and how you can leave a lasting legacy in our community, please contact us at info@myunitedway.org for more information.

5) Giving Through Your
Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)
If you’re looking for a tax-advantaged way to
make a meaningful impact, giving through your
Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) may be a
smart option. By directing a portion of your RMD
to United Way as a Qualified Charitable
Distribution (QCD), you can support vital
community programs while potentially reducing your taxable income. Just inform your
broker or fund manager of your intention to donate all or a portion of your Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to United Way of Kankakee & Iroquois Counites. (EIN: 36-2188452)

Regardless of the method, United Way wants to ensure that your charitable goals are met effectively. To start the conversation about making a legacy gift, please reach out to info@myunitedway.org.
The Community Foundation can accept gifts to both funds which assist with the growth and sustainability of United Way of Kankakee and Iroquois Counties' programs and operations. Contributions to these Funds can be made online at cfkrv.org or by mail to the Foundation Office.
Endowment Gifts
Endowment gifts create a steady stream of annual income to forever support the United Way's critical work in our community. Endowment gifts can be made at any time, or can be created as a part of an estate plan. United Way currently partners with the Community Foundation of Kankakee River Valley, where two endowments are currently available to contribute to:
-

-
United Way of Iroquois Fund: Established in 2014 through an estate gift for the benefit of Iroquois County. Contributions to this fund generates up to $25,000 in distributions each year to Iroquois County nonprofits.
